Yellow River Game Ranch

While Steven was home for his "home time" for a week. We thought it would be fun to take Parker to the Yellow River Game Ranch to see some cool animals up close.
We thought that maybe we weren't going to be able to make it because about 30 minutes before Steven got home, after being gone for six weeks...Parker mysteriously fell ill. He and I went to WalMart to get Steven a thing of his favorite beer, and then stopped in and got him his favorite chinese food. As we were walking in the door with dinner, I looked down and there was vomit all over me and him. I thought, maybe he just didn't feel well from the car ride, cleaned him up and he said he wanted to eat. I put some rice on his plate, thinking it was just a mishap, and about 30 seconds later, he threw up again. I got the thermometer and he was BURNING up. He had a temperature of 102.0. Okay, I had been with him ALL day and he was FINE, and was FINE while we were at the store. How did he get a temperature THAT high THAT fast? So, I stipped his clothes off of him, and cuddled up with him in a blanket on the couch until Steven got home...what a welcome home gift...a sick baby! And he was only sick one other time the entire time Steven was gone, and that was two days after he left when he came down with bronchitis. For two entire days, my poor baby had an extremely high fever, creeping up to 102.9 at one point. I kept him in my bed so I could make sure he was okay during the night and kept lots of fluids in him. After the one throwing up incident, he was able to hold down all of his foods and liquids, and when I spoke with the doctor (thinking I was going to have to go to the emergency room with him), she told me that the biggest indicator on how he was, was how he was acting. The kid ACTED FINE!!! He was playing and laughing and eating and drinking, but he was just BURNING UP for two solid days. It still blows my mind in case you couldn't tell.

On Tuesday, he woke up, and his fever had completely broken and he was back to a cool 98.6 degrees and I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief. Plus, this was the only day ALL week when it wasn't supposed to rain. So, we took this opportunity to head out to the game ranch (tylenol in tow just in case the fever creeped up on us again).

We all had a BLAST! In the little store, you can buy food for the animals, so we loaded up on mainly peanuts and crackers. These animals would come take food out of your hands. Squirrels, deer, ducks (not my favorite, ugh) and even bears would poke their noses into the "tunnels" where you sent the peanuts through and ate them on the other side. Very cool. There was quite a bit of clean up that had to still be done due to the floods last year that almost put the entire game ranch under water, but they had done a good job cleaning up so far. We spent about 2 hours looking around and feeding the animals, and we were sure that was enough excitement for Parker since he was getting over the mysterious fever (maybe it was just teething??) and we headed home for a much needed naptime.

Enjoy some pictures!
